Gorge Walking FAQ's
Can I wear glasses?
It’s advisable not to wear glasses, as they can get lost during the activity. However, if you need them to see, you may wear them at your own risk. To reduce the chance of losing them, we recommend using a secure strap or cord.
Can I carry medication?
Yes, the instructor will carry a dry bag and can safely store any necessary medication for you.
Can we bring a camera?
We recommend using a GoPro with a chest strap for safety and convenience. Handheld cameras, especially GoPros, are often lost during activities.
What is the largest wetsuit size you offer?
Our wetsuit sizes go up to 4XL. We do not have a maximum weight requirement.
Where can we store our clothes?
You can leave your clothes locked in your car or bus. If you don’t have a vehicle, you can leave them in the instructor’s van. Car keys can also be stored securely with the instructor.
Where does the activity start and end?
We start and finish at the same location as the route is circular.
Are there changing rooms or showers?
This is a remote, uncommercialised area. While there are no showers or permanent changing rooms, there is a wooden changing hut for privacy. Public toilets are located five minutes away. For youth groups, we hire the village hall as a changing area.
Are there pubs nearby?
Yes, there are several great pubs nearby, including The Angel Inn, The Old White Horse Inn, and Sgwd Gladys.
What transport options are available?
A 16-seater minibus costs approximately £300 for a return trip from Cardiff city center. We recommend:
- Driving Miss Daisy - 07960 906670
- Matt Glyneath - 07810 056956
What should we bring or wear?
Please wear swimwear under your clothes. Bring spare underwear, a towel, and trainers or walking boots that can get wet. It’s also a good idea to bring snacks and water for after the activity.
Will the activity go ahead in the rain?
Yes, gorge walking goes ahead in all weather. On rare occasions, if river levels are too high, we will contact you to reschedule. Your safety is our top priority.
Can we wear wet/beach shoes?
No, these are not sturdy enough. Walking boots or trainers only.
Can we bring food and drink?
You won't be able to carry food or drinks with you on the route, but it's a good idea to bring some water and snacks for afterwards. There are also several shops and cafés just five minutes away, so you'll have plenty of options if you'd like to grab something to eat or drink after the activity.
EXCELLENT Based on 731 reviews thomas d5 May 2026Verified Gorge Scrambling Superb route gorge scrambling/canyoning with Rhys and Dyfed, beautiful scenery, some really interesting and challenging moments, we were a big group and we did loads in the time slot, great jumps and both guides were excellent and super friendly, highly recommend and would definitely do it again. Matt F21 April 2026Verified Stag do trip We went canyoning with Dyfed and Rhys for a stag do and had a great time. Great route, with a great range of challenges. They helped us through it and everything was optional. Great fun for a group activity. It was great value, well organised and would definitely recommend. Harry H11 April 2026Verified Stag approved, great trip out, very easy going Wow! Thank you for an amazing morning out. 100% would recommend this - from the entire stag party. Thanks for an awesome afternoon. Kate H28 September 2025Verified Excellent team day out Had an absolutely amazing day canyoning for a team day out! Everyone stepped out of their comfort zones, and our guide, Neil, was incredibly patient, supportive, and full of knowledge. He showed us breathtaking sights while leading us through jumps off waterfalls and climbs through caves. The whole experience was not only exciting but also surprisingly therapeutic and completely erased the stress our team had been carrying. Couldn’t have asked for a better day. Highly recommend! anonymous123423125 September 2025Verified Exciting and adventurous We had a fantastic experience with Blue Ocean Activities. From the very start of planning our activity, Danielle communicated regularly and was helpful with the booking process. Rhys, our instructor, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the area, which really helped put everyone at ease and made the whole group feel confident in the activities. The morning was packed with a variety of adventure, jumping into waterfalls, climbing and scrambling over rocks and walking/swimming through rivers. Rhys was also very safety conscious, regularly checking the conditions and making sure the activities were safe before we jumped in. What we really appreciated was that there was absolutely no pressure, anyone who didn’t feel comfortable with a particular activity was free to sit it out, which made the whole experience enjoyable for everyone. Thanks again to Rhys and the team for a fun and memorable morning. We’d highly recommend Blue Ocean Activities and the gorge scrambling! sarahfp201623 September 2025Verified If you’re looking for; action, adventure and a bit of adrenaline this ticks all the boxes! We had so much fun canyoning with Blue Ocean activities. We were expertly and reassuringly guided along the River gorge, where we had fun jumping into pools, clambering over the rocks, swimming and even a little bit of pot holing. Any sections we did not feel comfortable with we had the option to sit out, which wasn’t a problem but as a 55 and 60 year-old couple, I’m pleased to say we managed it all! We were well kitted up with helmet, wetsuit and life jacket. Communication with the booking team was good. So If you’re up for a bit of adventure, action and adrenaline this would certainly tick the boxes. Melanie R21 September 2025Verified Amazone experience We are three French friends who wanted to discover the region in a different way, and we were not disappointed! We were accompanied by Rhys G, who was very attentive and friendly. He took the time to make sure we understood everything and were having fun. Thank you to him!
