Gorge Walking FAQ's

Can I wear glasses?

It’s advisable not to wear glasses, as they can get lost during the activity. However, if you need them to see, you may wear them at your own risk. To reduce the chance of losing them, we recommend using a secure strap or cord.

Can I carry medication?

Yes, the instructor will carry a dry bag and can safely store any necessary medication for you.

Can we bring a camera?

We recommend using a GoPro with a chest strap for safety and convenience. Handheld cameras, especially GoPros, are often lost during activities.

What is the largest wetsuit size you offer?

Our wetsuit sizes go up to 4XL. We do not have a maximum weight requirement.

Where can we store our clothes?

You can leave your clothes locked in your car or bus. If you don’t have a vehicle, you can leave them in the instructor’s van. Car keys can also be stored securely with the instructor.

Where does the activity start and end?

We start and finish at the same location as the route is circular.

Are there changing rooms or showers?

This is a remote, uncommercialised area. While there are no showers or permanent changing rooms, there is a wooden changing hut for privacy. Public toilets are located five minutes away. For youth groups, we hire the village hall as a changing area.

Are there pubs nearby?

Yes, there are several great pubs nearby, including The Angel Inn, The Old White Horse Inn, and Sgwd Gladys.

What transport options are available?

A 16-seater minibus costs approximately £300 for a return trip from Cardiff city center. We recommend:

What should we bring or wear?

Please wear swimwear under your clothes. Bring spare underwear, a towel, and trainers or walking boots that can get wet. It’s also a good idea to bring snacks and water for after the activity.

Will the activity go ahead in the rain?

Yes, gorge walking goes ahead in all weather. On rare occasions, if river levels are too high, we will contact you to reschedule. Your safety is our top priority.

Can we wear wet/beach shoes?

No, these are not sturdy enough. Walking boots or trainers only.

Can we bring food and drink?

You won't be able to carry food or drinks with you on the route, but it's a good idea to bring some water and snacks for afterwards. There are also several shops and cafés just five minutes away, so you'll have plenty of options if you'd like to grab something to eat or drink after the activity.
