Colleen T27 May 2025Fantastic gorge walking activity with professional instructor. The whole experience, from booking to taking part was fantastic. On the day, quite a few of our group were a little nervous and Neil, our instructor, was excellent with our mixed ability group. We had non swimmers and some who found the Gorge walking more physically challenging and he made it enjoyable for all of us. This was a Hen do activity which i think will be remembered and talked about for years to come.Verified

In Wales, gorge walking and canyoning are essentially the same activity. While the term canyoning typically refers to descending steep canyons using ropes, slides, and abseils (more common in countries like France or Italy), we don’t have that kind of terrain here in South Wales.
Instead, our adventures take place in steep river gorges—featuring scrambling, jumping into plunge pools, climbing waterfalls, and swimming through wild terrain. Technically, in Wales, this is known as gorge walking, but many people search for canyoning, so we use both terms.
Some providers try to differentiate them, but the truth is: canyoning in Wales = gorge walking in Wales. Our sessions combine all the best elements of both!
At Blue Ocean Activities, we’ve been running canyoning and gorge walking adventures in South Wales for over 17 years—and that experience really sets us apart.
Unlike many companies who take groups to the busiest, most commercial gorge routes, we operate in a more remote and exclusive section of the Brecon Beacons. This area isn’t widely used by other providers or crowded with tourists, so it offers a more adventurous, immersive, and authentic experience.
We have special access to this part of the gorge, including extra challenges.
We also cover a longer, more varied route than most other providers, and we go beyond the typical stopping points to give our groups a proper canyoning challenge.
If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable canyoning experience in Wales, you won’t find a better team or a more exciting route than with Blue Ocean.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
