Hidden in the lush woodland of Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons National Park), the Four Waterfalls Walk is one of the most rewarding and photogenic trails in South Wales. Famous for its dramatic scenery, ancient oak forests, and of course, its spectacular waterfalls, this moderate hike offers the perfect blend of nature, exercise, and fresh air.
Whether you’re a local looking to explore more of Wales or a visitor planning a day trip, the Four Waterfalls Walk promises unforgettable views, magical woodland paths, and the soothing sound of water at every turn.

The Four Waterfalls – In Detail
1. Sgwd Clun-Gwyn – “Fall of the White Meadow”
The first waterfall on the route, Sgwd Clun-Gwyn is wide, dramatic, and easy to access. A large cascade tumbles over rocky steps, framed by mossy cliffs and woodland. There are multiple viewpoints—some safer than others—so take care if you leave the main trail.
2. Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn – “Lower Fall of the White Meadow”
This hidden gem is often missed but well worth the steep and sometimes muddy descent. It’s a more tranquil spot surrounded by dense forest and features a multi-layered cascade flowing over curved rock ledges. It feels like a secret place lost in time.
Access Tip: The descent is via a very steep path—suitable footwear is a must.
3. Sgwd y Pannwr – “Fall of the Woollen Washer”
One of the most elegant and photogenic waterfalls, Sgwd y Pannwr flows in smooth ribbons over a broad rock shelf. You’ll hear the water long before you see it, and its graceful shape and peaceful setting make it a favourite for photographers and picnic-goers.
4. Sgwd yr Eira – “Fall of Snow”
The most iconic and dramatic of the four, Sgwd yr Eira offers something truly unique—you can actually walk behind the curtain of water. Reached by a steep and often slippery staircase carved into the valley, this waterfall is a highlight for many visitors.
Behind-the-Waterfall Tip: Bring a waterproof jacket—you will get sprayed, but it’s worth it!

Route Options and Navigation Tips
- Full Circular Loop: Includes all four waterfalls and takes 3–4 hours at a steady pace.
- Shorter Walks: You can tailor your route by visiting just 2–3 waterfalls from either car park.
- Waymarking: Look out for coloured waymarkers, but a printed map or GPS can help as the paths can split unexpectedly.
- Terrain: Expect uneven surfaces, tree roots, and muddy patches, especially after rain.
